A Very Long Day in Door County...

One of the drawbacks of living in Door County is that there is always something to do, and somewhere to explore.

That can make for some very busy days.

Today started with a trip to the beach. Okay, so maybe it's not Hawaii, but Door County, Wisconsin has the best beaches in the middle of the country. We weren't going there to swim, however. We went to Whitefish Dunes to see the sand scupture competition...

It was a very Door County-ish event. A combination of art and the environment. The kids had fun walking around...

But since we were at Whitefish Dunes, Cari said we just had to take a trek over to Cave Point...

Cave Point consists of limestone formations that withstand the pounding of the waves from Lake Michigan. That makes for some fun places for kids to explore along the shoreline...

The boys loved climbing out to every rock point they could find...

But the little girls kept wanting to pose for pictures...

Although we did have a few showers early on, it turned out to be a beautiful day in Door County...

But going to the beach, then walking through the woods, then exploring rock formations along the shoreline - well, that's not enough to do on a single day for my lovely wife.

The American Waterways Wind Orchestra was arriving in town to play a concert tonight. And they have the name "Waterways" in their name for a very specific reason. They have a most unique mode of travel...

That vessel is a self-propelled barge which sailed into Sturgeon Bay and set up in the harbor. That middle section of the barge in the picture above lifts up to create a symphony shell like covering where the orchestra plays...

It is quite amazing and the kids seemed to enjoy it...

Ah, such is life during summer in Door County!
