Playing with our new toy...

Toy?

I mean valuable tool we use to record our wonderful adventures so that we may always look back and cherish our lives together.

At least that was my way of rationalizing to my lovely wife the exorbitant amount of money I spent on a new digital camera.

We now have a new Nikon D90, several lens, and lots of other assorted accessories that only a true techno-geek can really enjoy.

So how do we initially put this new toy to use?

Taking pictures of our son's football games?

Capturing memories of our daughter's first amusement park ride?

Otherwise simply documenting their childhood so that it can be forever preserved?

No.

I took pictures of vegetables...

And just 'cause those weren't enough, here are a few more...

Okay, maybe there is some point to all this. We wanted to see how well the new camera could capture color and detail. I don't know what it looks like on a webpage - but the originals are fantastic!

Another one of the fun features of the camera is its ability to snap 5 pictures every second. So we told Bretty to jump from the lifeguard chair at the beach.

I figured we'd get either a neat picture of him landing on his feet or clear documentation of how he broke his leg.

Either way, it would be a good test for the camera...

Then we started getting really weird.

Excuse the garbage cans in the background, but we needed a dark place for the next experiment.

We went in the garage and fooled around with very slow shutter speeds, a wide open aperture, and multiple flashes. Here's David, and David, and David...

Then David decided to make a star with a flashlight with the shutter open and Alyssa firing a late flash...

And this is what it looks like when you go crazy with a Mace Windu lightsaber and the shutter held open in the dark...

We have Mace's lightsaber because it's the purple one.

Mace is the only Filipino Jedi.

One of my favorite images is the double exposure with Alyssa and David...

That one's really odd.

And I even played a bit to get the streaking effect from the sun as the day came to an end...

This new camera is going to be a lot of fun!
