David Vader

Today marks the 8th Birthday of my oldest son David.

And as is the newest tradition in our household -- for the third birthday in a row (starting with Cari's, then Alyssa's, and now David's) -- instead of a cake with candles, we just have to have a pie...

Seriously, David wanted a birthday pie! Of course, little sister Nalani just couldn't wait to get her hands on a piece for herself.

Of course, what is a birthday without presents -- and David got lots of things. He loves to draw so we bought him all sorts of art supplies so he could continue to publish his original superhero magazine, ElectroKnight. "Publish" means he draws and narrates the story and binds it all together with staples -- only to then be given to Daddy so he can make copies at his office for further distribution (i.e. give it to his brothers and sisters).

His sisters and brothers picked out spy equipment for his birthday. One is a listening device which he can plant in one room and listen in from another. The other piece of equipment is a series of motion detectors so he can tell if someone is approaching his bedroom.

Sounds like trouble if you ask me...

What he's been wearing for the remainder of the evening, however, is his brand new Darth Vader mask...

It covers his entire head and even has a speaker built in which makes his voice sound like James Earl Jones. Now my son has been walking around the house all night saying things like,

"Luke, I am your father"

"You don't know the power of the dark side"

"This is CNN"

Of course, as much as my son makes a good Sith, his Vader head just doesn't look quite right on that 8 year old body...

Alas, but we did have lots of fun for his birthday! Right now all the kids are in a circle downstairs playing with his new Jokemaster -- which is a palm sized computer with thousands of jokes like...

"Why do husband's forget their mistakes? There's no use in two people remembering the same thing."

The really funny part is that many of the younger kids don't get it so Alyssa has to explain the joke in simpler terms for them, then they all start cracking up.

One more thing, Alyssa has created a Website to go along with her Blog. Be sure to visit both some time soon!
